Easy Ship vs FBA: who packs what
- Easy Ship and self-ship. You pack each order. You need courier bags, a label printer or a print shop, and a packing habit that survives the sorting hub. Everything in this guide applies.
- FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon). You send inventory to the fulfilment centre in cartons. Amazon packs the customer order in its own packaging. Your job is carton strength, carton labels and polybagging items that Amazon requires to be bagged, such as apparel and anything that can leak. Use a clear polybag or clear pouch for those and a strong BOPP tape for the carton.
Do you need Amazon printed bags?
Amazon does not require sellers to use Amazon-branded packaging for Easy Ship. A plain tamper-proof bag with a correct label is accepted. Printed bags earn their small premium in three ways: a marked label box so every order is packed the same way, a seal print that shows tampering, and a parcel that looks like it came from Amazon when it lands at the door, which lowers "item not as described" claims from first-time buyers. Under a few hundred orders a month, a plain 52 micron bag at ₹1.65 a piece (pack of 100, 6 x 8) is the cheaper route.
Label placement that scans first time
- Print the Amazon label at 100 percent. Do not fit-to-page or shrink.
- Paste it inside the label box on the face of the bag, all four corners flat.
- Never tape across the barcode. If you must tape a trimmed label, tape only the edges.
- Keep the label away from the seal flap and the bag edges.
- One label per parcel. For multi-item orders, one bag of the next size up with one label.
Weight: the fee lever most sellers ignore
Easy Ship fees step up by weight slab, and a carton is charged on volumetric weight when that is higher than actual weight. A courier bag weighs under 10 grams and has no volumetric penalty, so anything that is not fragile should ship in a bag, not a box. Choose the smallest bag that closes flat, fold rather than roll, and skip inner polybags unless the product can scratch or leak. 52 or 60 micron for Amazon?
Amazon printed bags come in 60 micron. The extra thickness matters on marketplace volumes because the parcel is thrown, stacked and scanned with hundreds of others. A 60 micron bag resists corner splits and holds the seal under pressure. For low-volume or own-website orders, 52 micron is fine.
